"As it chugged over the Bourne Bridge yesterday on the backs of three tractor-trailers, The Curio House lived up to its name, creating a curiosity factor in the afternoon traffic.
The 800-square-foot building, designed and built for a U.S. Department of Energy competition in Washington, D.C., known as the Solar Decathlon, made its way up Route 95 and Route 195 and onto Cape Cod. Shrink-wrapped in plastic, it will be stored in a Bourne warehouse until the Housing Assistance Corp. can move the tiny single-family dwelling to its permanent site in Sandwich.
A half-dozen officials from the Hyannis-based housing organization clutched cameras and camcorders to capture a moment that has been 10 years in the making. The Curio House will be the first house at Community Green, formerly Dana's Fields, a 45-acre development off Victory Circle near the Sandwich Industrial Park that was part of a long, protracted legal battle until 2007."
