Competition :: Common Boston Common Build :: June 17-20

The Common Boston Common Build (CBCB) is a design/build competition that challenges participants to design and implement a project in response to community needs. Held over 3 days during the Common Boston community and architecture festival, the CBCB is open to teams and individuals from all disciplines and experience levels. Common Boston and LostInBoston.org have partnered to host this year's competition that will focus on raising awareness of the built environment, improving wayfinding, and inspiring connections across the urban fabric.

Partnering with LostInBoston, this year's challenge is geared toward making the communities around us more pedestrian friendly. Participants will design and construct wayfinding elements that should be integrated into their site with an emphasis on the unique contextual elements of that location. Competitors will be asked to work with pre-selected clients and sites as well as members of the community to develop design solutions that address the specific physical and social needs of that community. The CBCB aims to prove that even when created in less than 72 hours, an innovative and influential response to areal problem can alter the way we interact with and understand the built environment while seeking tangible benefits for its community.

Pre-registration Deadline: Thursday, June 3, 2010
Project Installation Period: June 17-20, 2010
