Search for the Asian Longhorned Beetle :: Wednesday, June 23rd

Calling for Volunteers! Help Friends of the Public Garden with an important environmental inventory on:

Wednesday, June 23, 2010
3 pm
Boston Common

This is an opportunity to learn how to spot evidence of a major pest to North American hardwoods, celebrate the completion of the first-ever computer-based inventory of all the trees in the Boston Common, Public Garden, and Commonwealth Avenue Mall, and help to publicize both the inventory and the issue. Jennifer Forman-Orth of the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture, an expert on the Asian Longhorned Beetle who has conducted many training sessions on spotting the Beetle’s presence, will be on hand to work with volunteers. After the session in the Common, we will have a reception at the Parkman House on Beacon Street to thank the Highland Street Foundation who generously provided the funding for the inventory.

This day is one of our 40th anniversary events. We are looking for volunteers to take part. The park session will take between one and one and a half hours. For information about the event, call Friends of the Public Garden at 617-723-8144. Sign up as a volunteer by calling Harron and Associates at 617-267-7366 or email marjorie@harronandassociates.com.
