Somerville ArtBeat Festival

Friday July 16 & Saturday July 17, 2010
Davis Square, Somerville
Suggested Donation: $3

ArtBeat is an opportunity to appreciate all forms of art in a fun community setting. The 2010 theme is W A T E R. Events include interactive exhibits, bands, dance troupes, local artisan vendors, and food and water-themed activities galore.

On Saturday, ArtBeat gives you the opportunity to make your own pirate costume - hats, eye patches, telescopes, belts and fake parrots - as well as march in the Pirate Parade.

Throughout the festival, there is a sculpture-making workshop and installation called Totem Island. You are guided to create tiki-head totems using recycled Water Bottles and Laundry Detergent Bottles. Artist Susan J. Champeny encourages participants to reflect on water use, and see new ways of keeping plastic bottles of all kinds out of the waste stream.

This event is sponsored by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville Arts Council.
