Without the popularity and financial success of sea-fearing trade in Salem, would John Turner have become a successful and wealthy man in need of a fanciful, modern mansion? Without working to the ranks of Captain, would John Turner and Samuel Ingersoll have had the fortune they amassed throughout their lifetimes? Without these funds, would The Turner-Ingersoll Mansion, known as The House of the Seven Gables, have been built, maintained and renovated?
Jim McAllister will answer these questions and provide information on the original Turner and Ingersoll families responsible for the creation, evolution, and longevity of the historic home which inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The House of the Seven Gables.
