In a world that is changing rapidly, it is essential for buildings to conserve both energy and materials, provide a comfortable and healthy indoor environment, be durable, affordable, and desirable. While the majority of current building construction is performed on-site, this competition will focus on the alternative; modular building technology.
Competitors will be challenged with the design of a small residential community on a 4 acre vacant lot located in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. Teams will submit a complete design package that will include a site plan, community center, and housing units for 20 families. They will be asked to clearly disclose both the heating loads and estimated cost of construction on their final presentation boards (calculation spreadsheets provided).
Awards and prizes will be presented at the 2011 Building Energy Conference's - NESEA Night celebration in Boston, MA on March 9, 2011. All entries will be displayed on the trade show floor for public viewing for the duration of the conference.
