For this special August Lunch & Learn lecture, Dr. Satoshi Kose, a professor at the Graduate School of Design, Shizuoka University of Art and Culture, will be visiting the IHCD office from Japan and will be speaking about new developments in Universal Design in Japan, with an emphasis on housing. He is an expert in the field of building use and safety, human factors, and universal design.
Before joining the university, he worked with the Building Research Institute of Japan, where he worked for years to develop dwelling design guidelines toward the ageing society in Japan, and became among the first awardees of the Ron Mace Design for the 21st Century Award in June 2000.
He has published many papers on designing for the ageing society and universal design, including a chapter in the Universal Design Handbook from McGraw Hill. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1971, and later received his Engineering Doctorate on domestic stair safety.
This event is open to the public and costs $10 per registrant. Attendees will be eligible for 1 AIA credit.
