The Designery at YouthBuild Boston is looking for Project Mentors and Guest Critics. This unpaid experience can offer you Practice/IDP Credit. Applications will be accepted until February 18, 2013.
The Designery is YouthBuild Boston’s hands-on urban architecture workshop for high school students. Designery students, or ‘Junior Designers,’ hone their problem solving skills through a team based approach to real-world architectural problems.
Junior Designers explore architectural and landscape design, investigate the environmental and social aspects of design, and discover new career opportunities. They develop life and job-readiness skills, build self-esteem, and serve their communities.
Project Mentor Description
Project mentors work weekly with the students to support and help develop their architectural exploration. Project mentors assist Junior Designers in hand drafting, sketching, and basic computer skills.
Guest Critic Description
Guest critics will review the Junior Designers’ progress at scheduled critiques throughout the semester. They will give constructive criticism to help students develop a coherent and thorough design.
-Enthusiasm and love for architectural design
-Excellent oral communication skills
-Proficiency in SketchUp 8, Adobe InDesign, & AutoCAD
-Positive and outgoing demeanor
Please send resume and time eligibility information to the Project Manager via email. The Designery is open Monday- Thursday from 3-6 pm. Project mentors are required to work at least one day per week (flexible). Guest critics will work on select Wednesdays and/or Thursdays.
