Spatial Design and Political Leadership Discussion
Free to attend
Time: 3–4 pm
Location: The Beehive

Take part in a lively discussion about the connections between politics and design led by Representative Chris Walsh, a licensed architect and Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

All spatial designers are fundamentally engaged in public policy and diplomacy simply by the nature and sweeping impact that their work has on the health and vitality of the built environment. They therefore need to consciously participate and assume responsibility for larger conversations that transcend matters of brick and mortar. According to Richard Swett, the former Congressman from New Hampshire and US ambassador to Denmark, "By expanding ‘design' from its aesthetic sense to incorporate people, society, and quality of life issues, we shift the paradigm of architecture from the design of buildings to influencing the ‘design' process for solving problems in society."

Alumni Awards Reception
Cost: $25 (Included in Student Ticket price)
Time: 4–6 pm
Location: Cascieri Hall

Enjoy an hors d'oeuvres reception with beer and wine as we present the annual Alumni Awards. Awards are given to four alumni for Distinguished Alumni in Practice, Distinguished Alumni in Service, Emerging Designer, and Selfless Labor.

  • Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks
  • Passed and stationary hors d'oeuvres
