CELEBRATE PRIDE ICONS: Harvey Milk

In celebration of Pride Month, every week the OSL will highlight a different person that has shaped the LGBTQ+ Community and has been an icon for so many to follow. This week we remember Harvey Milk (1930-1978).

The first openly gay elected official in American history. Milk served on the Board of Supervisors for the city of San Francisco for a short eleven month where he fought for LGBT rights and looked to pass bills banning discrimination against Queer people. His tenure was cut short when he was assassinated in 1978, but his legacy as a visionary and positive voice for the LGBT+ community lives on today.
